Rep. Mark Takano Introduces Legislation to Let Deaf and Hard of Hearing Serve in the Air Force

On July 30, 2014, Rep. Mark Takano (D-CA) introduced legislation that advocated for deaf/hard of hearing citizens to serve in the United States Air Force. His legislation called for a demonstration program in which the United States Air Force will accept citizens who are deaf/hard of hearing to serve in the military. Within the current medical standards for military enlistment, US citizens who are “deaf” or “hard of hearing” are excluded from joining the forces.
