A slam poem about language barriers and inaccessibility. It was originally written to explain how I feel as a deaf person constantly having to fill in the blanks while interacting with people, but it became more than that. I realize that this spoken piece describes language barriers and communication issues not just for D/deaf and Hard of Hearing people and people with Auditory Processing Disorder, but also people with learning differences and people living in countries where the language spoken isn’t their native language. The Book represents the dominant culture people must adhere to, a culture which so few are willing to examine or adjust for people not originally from said culture.
