SALISBURY, Md. – A handful of Gallaudet University men’s and women’s track and field members attended the Salisbury University Elite Meet here Thursday evening in an attempt to qualify for the 2016 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships being held May 26-28 in Waverly, Iowa. In the end, no Bison will make the trip to Iowa but several personal best times were set and one event won by Gallaudet.
Sophomore Kori Koss (Green Bay, Wis.) won the 100-meter hurdles in 17.73 seconds. Sophomore Lawjen Ashmore (Fairbanks, Alaska) was second in the 400-meter dash (1:01.94) and third in the 100-meter dash (13.86). Freshman Saria Webb (Ducanville, Texas) edged Ashmore in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.64 seconds.
McKitty, Webb and Carroll finished fifth, sixth and seventh in the 200-meter dash with times of 27.61, 28.24 and 29.17, respectively.
In the field events, sophomore Sabina Shysh (Tucson, Ariz.) gave it another go in the pole vault but failed to clear a height. Fellow sophomore Juliana Apfel (Tucson, Ariz.) rounded out the Bison participation in the event with her third-place finish in the discus. Apfel’s best toss was 29.17 meters (95 feet, eight inches).
This concludes the season for the Gallaudet women’s track and field team.
