'Dancing with the Stars': The sound of silence On Demand

You be the judge for the Judges’ Team-Up Challenge on Week 8 (Monday, May 9) of ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” even if it’s On Demand. Of course your score won’t count, though it didn’t seem to matter if one voted or not, since the judges each gave their colleagues all “10s” and America gave all “9s.”

Up first for their individual dance, something never done on this reality TV competition show. Nyle DiMarco and Peta Mugatroyd danced a paso doble with a moment of silence, no applause, no music, only what Nyle experiences while dancing. It was quite moving and unforgettable. Jodie Sweetin and Keo Motsepe took us to a church service with their ecstatic jive, which earned Jodie her first perfect score.

Ginger Zee and Val Chmerkovskiy got sexy with an Argentine Tango, where Ginger once again received her second consecutive perfect score. Closing out the first half of “Dancing with the Stars” was Wanya Morris and Lindsay Arnold in a western-style jive that was fast to the draw, except for one moment when their bandanas were used as props. Wanya lost his footing by slipping on Lindsay’s, though he recovered and was back in time with the routine. Lindsay was quite upset and put the blame on herself. They received the lowest scores of the night.

The team dances were certainly entertaining with one team, choreographed by Bruno Tonioli, featured same sex partners at one point. Jodie and Peta went first with their Argentine Tango in hold, followed by Nyle and Keo that was complete with a lift from Keo. Len Goodman joined in the fun with his team consisting of Wanya, Lindsay, Ginger, and Val for a Caribbean samba. There was one comical moment when Val took off his shirt, along with Wanya wearing a t-shirt underneath with fake abs The two professional athletes, Antonio Brown and Paige VanZant, along with Sharna Burgess and Mark Ballas, tackled a special effects paso doble with powered and rain that was coached by Carrie Ann Inaba.

Those in jeopardy at the end of the night were Antonio, Wanya, and Jodie. Antonio was safe, and the two left standing were Wanya and Jodie. It was Jodie’s time to go home and she left with a perfect score and memorable team dance. Week 9 will be the semi-finals and a double elimination. The remaining three will go on to the finals.
