Former school of 'Dancing With the Stars' winner rejoices

The Maryland School for the Deaf is rejoicing after one of its former students was named the winner of this season’s “Dancing With the Stars.”

The Frederick News-Post reports (http://bit.ly/1WRM1fa) the school’s students and staff cheered on Nyle DiMarco on Tuesday night as he competed in the finals of the ABC reality television show.

Those attending the viewing party at the school broke out in applause as the results came in.

DiMarco and his partner, Peta Murgatroyd, were announced winners of the show’s 22nd season.

Several people at the school say DiMarco, who is a former Frederick resident, has taught so many about deaf culture just by watching him on television.

DiMarco performed a variety of dances this season including the foxtrot and tango, and even performed blindfolded in the semifinals.
