Cheyenne, Wyo. – Advocates gathered in downtown Cheyenne on Thursday (5/4/16) to raise public awareness about discrimination against deaf, blind and hard of hearing individuals.
The Deaf Grassroots Movement of Wyoming (DGM) is hoping to raise awareness of job and education discrimination in the cowboy state. To do so, they’re looking for help in removing communication barriers and improving equality in the deaf and hard-of-hearing community.
The rally held in Cheyenne is one of 50 rallies being held at each state capitol across the U.S.
Organizers say they want to see “change from here on out, we want to see continued improvement for communication access which means interpreter provision, access, continued relations with employers.”
The first deaf grassroots movement rally was held last September and the organization says that they continue to grow with supporters of deaf rights activists.
