Seven Hamilton performers were nominated, and in two categories, actors will compete against each other. Probably not, with the Hamilton juggernaut so seemingly unstoppable.
“The Humans“, a comedy-drama with a St. Louis connection, received six Tony nominations. So when you can’t get Hamilton tickets you should consider, the other four nominees, and don’t forget Disaster!

“Hamilton” is the enormous favourite to win the most coveted Tony Award, the prize for best new musical. Dames at Sea closed in January; Disaster! closes in July, and Tuck Everlasting is not long for this world.
Shuffle Along, or the Making Of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed, a Jazz Age chronicle that cast a critical eye on history without sacrificing exuberance, earned 10 nominations, including best musical. The revivals may have better luck.
In addition to Ms. Soo, “She Loves Me” actress Laura Benanti is nominated for best actress in a leading role in a musical, as is “Bright Star” actress Carmen Cusack, “The Color Purple” actress Cynthia Erivo, and “Waitress” actress Jessie Mueller.
Unlike costar Bruce Willis, Laurie Metcalf was recognized for her performance in “Misery“.

The 70th annual Tony Awards will air from 8 to 11 p.m., June 5, on CBS. That may be even more the case this year, when the selections announcement had very few surprises.
