The remaining Dancing with the Stars 2016 cast hit the ballroom floor once more on Icons Night for Week 7 of Season 22. The 8 remaining teams faced a double-elimination as they perform routines to songs made famous by legendary American artists. In addition to their solo performances, all of the stars and pros were asked to take part in an always-challenging team dance. Who came out on top on Icons Night as the quest for the coveted Mirrorball Trophy nears its end? Let’s find out with the Dancing with the Stars recap.
Jodie Sweetin & Keo Motsepe did a Quickstep to “For Once in My Life” by Stevie Wonder. Len felt the routine had commitment, attack and energy. Bruno likened Jodie to a canary finally free from her cage but there were a couple foot faults. Carrie Ann loved Jodie’s aura and called out Keo for missing a step and the team for losing sync. Scores of 8-9-9 from the judges.
Kim Fields & Sasha Farber did the Samba to “ABC” by the Jackson 5. Bruno felt Kim was glowing in every sense of the word. Carrie Ann loves that Kim got so upset by the judges’ comments last week that she killed it with her routine this week. Len called it her best dance to date. Scores of 9-9-9 from the judges.
Nyle DiMarco & Peta Murgatroyd did the Foxtrot to “Beautiful Day” by U2. Peta declared that Nyle was hurt when some of his comments were taken out of context and thrown back at him last week. This week, Carrie Ann was happy that he got back in his game. She flet like there was a magnet underneath him pulling him around the floor. Len said Nyle’s butt was sticking out during the holds, but the guy still climbs mountains. Bruno loves the turns Nyle brings. Scores of 10-9-9 from judges.
Antonio Brown & Sharna Burgess did the Tango to “Paint it Black” by the Rolling Stones. From out of the shadows and from under a cloak and hood, Antonio took to a foggy dance floor with his partner for a truly atmospheric routine. Len said the dance had plenty of attitude and Bruno added that Antonio was truly going for it. He still needs to get the footwork right though. Carrie Ann advised him to learn how to finish his moves. Three 8s from the judges for a total of 24.
Wanya Morris & Lindsay Arnold performed a Foxtrot “I Say a Little Prayer” by Aretha Franklin. Boyz II Men commitments made finding rehearsal time tough for the team this week. You’d never know it judging by the sweet, wholesome, flowing routine they turned in. Bruno felt it was all done beautifully. Carrie Ann thought the dance was very good, but not great. Len felt it was a joyful performance. Scores of 9-9-9 from the judges.
Ginger Zee & Valentin Chmerkovskiy did a Viennese Waltz to “I Have Nothing” by Whitney Houston. The team looked quite dazzling as they took to the dance floor to turn in a beautiful performance that had the crowd cheering. Carrie Ann burst into tears halfway through the dance. Len said it had just the right amount of everything. Bruno said it was her best dance of the season. With scores of 10-10-10, Ginger Zee brings home the first perfect score of the season.
Von Miller & Witney Carson did a Salsa to “A Little Less Conversation” by Elvis. Dressed in a sparkling white outfit that would surely have impressed the King, Von was a hunka, hunka, burnin’ fun. Len felt it was like a pizza, a bit crusty at the base, but quite tasty at the top. Both he and Bruno were impressed by the lifts. Carrie Ann felt it was rough around the edges, but she still loved the campy fun. Scores of 8-8-8 from the judges.
Paige VanZant & Mark Ballas did a Jive to “Proud Mary” by Tina Turner. Paige was rollin’, rollin’, rollin’ on the dance floor in her lightning fast routine. Bruno thought the speed of the routine was insane. Carrie Ann thought it was ridiculous in a good way. Len felt it was all impressively under control. Scores of the 10-10-10 gives this team the second perfect score of the season, and the night!
Team James Brown: The four remaining male stars teamed up to dance to a medley of James Brown songs including “Super Bad,” “Living in America,” and “I Got You (I Feel Good). Wanya had to play catch-up after missing some rehearsal time. Still, the team had to “feel good” after their performance. Bruno loved how each man’s personality blended together and Carrie Ann was impressed by the teamwork everyone showed throughout. Scores of 9-9-10 from the judges.
Team Beyonce: The four remaining female stars teamed up to dance a medley of Beyonce songs including “End of Time,” “If I Were a Boy,” and “Crazy in Love.” The ladies were just as entertaining as the men. Bruno loved the fact that they teased him, but they lost sync a couple of times. Carrie Ann felt they were all working their Sasha Fierce tonight and that they challenged themselves. Scores of 8-8-9 from the judges.
After the team dances, two teams were eliminated from the competition in the from of Kim & Sasha and Von & Witney. The remaining teams head back the rehearsal halls to train for the Week 8 Quarterfinals on Monday May 9 as America becomes the 4th judge.
