Deaf Self Advocacy Workshop – LGBT in SF

DCARA is teaming up with DeafHope and DCCS (Deaf Community Counseling Services) to offer a workshop to raise awareness about specific skills related to Self-Advocacy in Education, Legal, Mental Health and Immigration issues. The workshop will be held on June 21, 2014 from 10am to 12pm.
The feature presenter will be Susan Gonzalex. Susan is an attorney who is deaf and she will discuss the history of same sex marriage and also discuss the complicated legal process for people who are in same sex marriage. DCARA will also have two mini presentations at the workshop. Cesar Ayala is a deaf man who is gay and he will share his experiences with Cheer San Francisco and how he participated and self advocated for himself. Lastly, Frank Lester, who is also deaf man who is gay will discuss and share his experience and explain what roles he plays on the SF LGBT Advisory Committee that is part of the Human Right Commission board.
