Deaf Boy Reacts Positively To Experimental Surgery

There are many deaf stories but there is a particular one making the international news recently. The deaf community has some hope in the cure for deafness since a experimental surgery on a young 3-year old Montreal boy, Auguste, is making major headlines. Auguste was born without auditory nerves, meaning sounds can’t travel to his brain, so his family decided to try out an experimental procedure that has corrected the condition by replacing the missing auditory nerves with an electronic implant.

Auguste is the first of 10 children who will receive this treatment, funded by the U.S. National Institutes of Health.
