2016 MLK Holiday Events in Duluth

This is an English version of the Announcement:

I am Doug Bowen-Bailey and I want to share some information with you about the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday coming up on January 18, 2016.

It’s a time to reflect on Dr. King’s life and legacy and his dream of a world filled with justice for all people.

Events are taking place around Minnesota. I want to share about Duluth.

On Monday, January 18 at Noon, there will be a rally at the Duluth Entertainment & Convention Center (DECC). The program includes a variety of speakers, musicians and dancers, as well as awards for people working in the service of justice. This rally will be interpreted. We invite the Deaf community to join in the celebration with the rest of the Twin Ports. This is a chance to think about how we can make our city, state, and society more equitable and inclusive for everyone. That rally starts at noon.

On Sunday, January 17, there is a community worship service at St. Mark AME Church. That starts at 5 pm on Sunday. This services honors that Dr. King was a man of faith and his religious principles supported his vision for the world. It is a chance for people of different faiths and traditions to reflect on Dr. King’s message for us. The service starts at 5 pm on Sunday January 17 and will have interpreters present.

Thanks to Commission of Deaf, DeafBlind and Hard of Hearing Minnesotans for providing support for interpreting services.

The rally and worship service are the events that currently will be interpreted. If you see another event you want to attend, contact me and I will work to arrange interpreting services.
