Gallaudet President Roberta “Bobbi” Cordano shares an update in ASL about the winter storm impact on the campus community. She invites everyone to share their blizzard photos and stories on social media using #SnowzillaGU.
I’m Bobbi, your president here at Gallaudet University.
I’m here at House One for our first “Snowzilla Fireside Chat” with you, our Gallaudet community.
This is the first time, for as long as we can remember that we have experienced a winter storm like this. We have a power outage on the east side of the campus including three dormitories and the Kendall apartments. Right now all of the families who live at Kendall apartments are now here at House One.
We’ve asked students in dorms without heat to go to the other dorms or the Kellogg ballroom. I hope you can share your stories with us at #SnowzillaGU. Tell your stories and experiences tonight about this crisis that was created and how, at the same time, we’ve partnered with and helped each other. I’m happy to see that. Let’s keep that spirit through this winter storm and through tomorrow. For sure the storm will dissipate by midnight tonight. We will see.
We have a Crisis Leadership Team that is still making plans for tomorrow—we will try to have the power back on by tomorrow. They are now checking for the cause of the outage and will work through the night. I want to thank them for their hard work and to the staff for their plowing and shoveling all day today. When you see staff shoveling and plowing, remember to thank them. And to thank each other for keeping connected and engaged. Remember to appreciate one another at this time.
We will keep you posted as we learn more. Thank you and see you around campus!
