Maks Chmerkovskiy was back on Dancing With The Stars on Monday night, but he wasn’t dancing! The ballroom pro was sitting on the judge’s panel instead, giving the dancers feedback and scoring them appropriately.
According to Us Weekly, Maks is most in awe of his fiancee’s partner, Nyle DiMarco. DiMarco — who previously won America’s Next Top Model — is the first deaf contestant on DWTS.
“Nyle — it’s just mind-boggling, the whole thing. And just the fact that, if you just look at him and remind yourself that he can’t hear anything, it’s just silence — it’s just even more impressive,” Maks said of Peta Murgatroyd’s dance partner. “The way Peta is with him and how she worked out those little things and sort of gestures that they communicate with — it’s very interesting for me. It’s very, very hard, I’m sure,” he added.
Maks Chmerkovskiy wanted to give Nyle DiMarco a “10” for his performance on Monday night (he danced with Sharna Burgess in the “switch up”), but wrote down a “9” before it was time to go live. Although Maks held up a “10” paddle for Nyle, the model ended up with a 37 out of 40 for the night (he got a “10” from Len Goodman and three “9’s” from the other judges) because of the numbers jotted down before the reveal.
The score doesn’t matter much, however, as Maks is still really enjoying Nyle’s ability to dance without hearing music.
