Very special day for patients with cochlear implant

Sunrisers players, support staff meet them at Apollo

For all the 1,000 patients who successfully underwent cochlear implants thanks to the efforts of the team headed by Dr. E. C. Vinay Kumar, it was an unforgettable experience when the lead players and support staff of Sunrisers Hyderabad descended on the Apollo Hospital premises on Friday to share a few moments.

The SRH team which visited the hospital included head coach Tom Moody, mentor VVS Laxman, spin legend Muttiah Muralitharan, players Shikhar Dhawan, Moises Henriques, Eoin Morgan.

“It is an incredible achievement by the doctors to give a fresh lease of life. Wish this word will spread around and encourage many more to get similar benefit,” said Laxman.

Dr. Hari Prasad, a former Hyderabad Ranji cricketer and president of Apollo Hospital, pointed out that it was a rare feat to do 1000 cochlear implants with such success rate.

The cricketers also unveiled Music Fest logo of SAHI, which is supporting the project essentially dealing with the under-privileged sections.

The festival will be held in July to create awareness about the essence of this huge medical task.

Dr Hari Prasad reminded that the implant costs about Rs 8 to 10 lakhs and thanked SAHI for lending all the desired support.

Dr Vinay said it was a great feeling to be part of such a wonderful mission.

The interaction of these patients with cricketers quite naturally evoked a few emotional moments for the former.
