Alder Springs simplifies day-to-day living for senior deaf and blind residents through an ingenious blend of smart architecture, inspired technology and delightful location.
Alder Springs is a nonprofit retirement community for deaf, deaf-blind, and blind seniors near the heart of charming downtown Morganton, NC, home of the North Carolina School for the Deaf (NCSD) and adjacent to Interstate 40 which traverses the US from the Atlantic to the Pacific. The community is an independent living facility featuring moderately affordable one- and two-bedroom units with two fully handicap accessible apartments. Advanced technologies throughout facilitate communication and movement and assure safety and security.
The community is unique in that it is the nation’s only nonprofit 501(c)(3) facility, with no federal funds utilized in its construction. (It is not a HUD project.) It was developed by and is owned by the North Carolina School for the Deaf at Morganton Foundation. Construction has been funded entirely by private donations, grants, and loans. Occupancy revenues from Alder Springs will be used for the community’s operating costs, maintenance, repayment of loans, and expansion. All remaining funds will be used to enrich the educational experiences of students at the NC School for the Deaf.
Make Alder Springs your home.
