Betsy McCarthy of Boston’s North End has been selected as the Hamilton Relay 2016 Better Hearing and Speech Month Award recipient for the state of Massachusetts. Her peers describe her as a passionate and hardworking volunteer. She was presented with this recognition on Wednesday, May 25th at the Massachusetts Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in Boston, MA.
As a volunteer with the Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (AG Bell), Betsy served as a mentor for the AG Bell Kids program from 2004-2006. She was also the Kids Director for many years and coordinated Rock Wall Climbing events. Additionally she was a board member for seven years and continues to attend the AG Bell national conventions. Currently, Betsy is a member of the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA), Boston Chapter and is the treasurer of the Steering Committee. She is very active volunteer for the New England HLAA Walk4Hearing.
Betsy has been a member of the Statewide Advisory Council for the Massachusetts Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing since 2012. She is currently the Chair of the Legislative Task Force. Betsy also finds time to serve on the Deaf Catholic Council which is part of the Deaf Apostolate of the Boston Archdiocese.
Betsy is invested in her community and advocating for individuals who are hard of hearing. We commend Betsy for her dedication and are pleased to present her with the Hamilton Relay 2016 Better Hearing and Speech Month Recognition Award for the state of Massachusetts.
