Nyle DiMarco knows how to make a statement. The deaf model dared to attempt a completely silent section of his pasodoble on Monday’s Dancing with the Stars – and he was rewarded with 29 out of 30 and raves from the judges.
I’ve seen a lot on this show, 22 seasons and I’ve never seen anything like that, that touched me so profoundly,” said judge Carrie Ann Inaba, wiping away tears. “You really are educating us.”
DiMarco performed a silent section with four members of the DWTS dance troupe, and judge Bruno Tonioli was impressed by how they all synced up.
“I was like watching five men dancing to the beat of a single heart, connected by the soul,” said Tonioli.

In his exclusive PEOPLE Vlog, DiMarco opened up about why he decided to go with a silent section.
“I think a lot of people in the audience, the hearing audience, are very impressed and look up to me about how I’m dancing, but it’s time to invite them into getting an insight into my world,” said the America’s Next Top Model winner. “What it’s like to be deaf and how I’ve been dancing without sound.”
