Kim: Hello! My name is Kim Wassenaar. I serve on the Governor’s Council for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Celebration event. Every year since 1986, the Governor’s Council on the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday hosts the event in January. The theme this year is “Women of Color in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).”
[Text onscreen] The keynote speaker is Dr. Mae C. Jemison. Jemison was the first woman of color to travel to space (the Space Shuttle Endeavour on September 12, 1992). She served six years as an NASA astronaut and is currently the Science Literacy Advisor for Bayer Corporation USA. She’s also a member of the U.S. National Academy of Medicine.
Kim: She will be our keynote speaker. The celebration will be at the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts. The address for the location is 345 Washington St., St. Paul, MN. The celebration starts at 10 A.M. and ends around 12 P.M.
Remarks will also be made by Mike Roman, 3M’s chief executive officer; our new Governor Tim Walz; our new Lt. Governor Peggy Flannagan; and St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter. The admission is free!
The celebration will include musical performance and more! The program will have American Sign Language interpretation and CART (captioning) services provided. See you there!
