There are several ways that you can support this program. You can donate or you can sponsor a child.
Camp Caterpillar is an inclusive summer camp that aims to bridge the literacy gap* faced by Deaf and Hard of Hearing children aged 5-11 by providing culturally and linguistically appropriate summer literacy activities. Campers are Deaf, DeafBlind, DeafDisabled, Late-Deafened, and Hard of Hearing children and their siblings.
The camp theme is STEAM: Science, Technology, Art, Engineering, Math. The curriculum is currently being developed in collaboration with California School for the Deaf, Fremont. The camp is staffed by highly-qualified Deaf Education teachers and Deaf adults working in STEAM fields. Each day of camp will focus on a different aspect of the STEAM curriculum, inviting Deaf experts in the specific area.
Camp culminates with a celebration planned and executed by the campers using the skills they gain during the week. Funds will go towards camp materials, teacher stipends, meals, and scholarships for low- and no-income families.
SG Mission: to serve our viewers by providing reliable, valuable, and important Deaf community oriented information in every newcast.
