Many of you asked, so here’s our clarification! Learn more about the differences between the NAD Youth Programs and NAD Youth Section! #DeafYouth

[VIDEO DESC & TRANSCRIPT: Chanel and Imonie are standing at the NAD Headquarters lobby.

CHANEL: Hello! Are you between the ages of 18 and 30? If so, then this video is for you! I’m Chanel, the NAD Director of Youth Programs.

IMONIE: My name is Imonie, I am the NAD Youth Section (NADYS) Region I Representative. We are often asked, “What’s the difference between Youth Programs and Youth Section?”

CHANEL: We want to help clear this up and share the purpose and goals between Youth Programs and Youth Section.

IMONIE: NADYS is fairly new. The NAD approved the section in 2018. While NADYS is still new, our main purpose is to reach out to deaf and hard of hearing youth across the U.S. whether enrolled in schools for the deaf or mainstream programs. We want to get their input and how we could provide support. Also, we want to educate and empower deaf youth on how to advocate for their rights.

CHANEL: The NAD Youth Programs has programs suitable for deaf youth in middle school, high school as well as young adults between the ages of 18 – 30. We offer programs such as Jr. NAD, Youth Leadership Camp, College Bowl, and Youth Ambassador Program. There are also opportunities to join our program committees.

IMONIE: To sum up, if you are interested in membership benefits with the NAD, join the Youth Section. When you join the NAD online, you can choose “Youth Section” as you fill out your information. You can contact us at nadys@nad.org.

CHANEL: If you want to participate in the NAD Youth Programs that includes activities and camps, this is the place! You can contact us through the NAD’s contact us page online.

BOTH: Thank you!
