COVID-19 Update 3/5/2020
Hello! My name is Neil McDevitt and I’m the Executive Director at the Deaf-Hearing Communication Centre serving the greater Philadelphia region.
This is an update in regards to COVID-19 in the Philadelphia region. As of March 5, 2020 – there are no confirmed cases in the State of Pennsylvania.
As we mentioned in our last video, the most important things you can do to prevent the spread of any illness or sickness
1. Cover any coughs or sneezes with your elbows, not your hands!
2. Wash your hands frequently, for at least 20 seconds with soap and water. If soap and water aren’t available, use alcohol-based sanitizer.
3. Clean surfaces like tables, desks, cell phones, light switches, and countertops frequently
4. If you’re sick, stay home! Don’t spread sickness to other people!
We also want to reiterate two very important points from the United States Centers for Disease Control:
1. Facemasks should NOT be worn by people who are healthy. With so many people unnecessarily buying facemarks, it’s making it very difficult for people who are genuinely sick to get them.
2. Asian-Americans and communities like Chinatown in Philadelphia are NOT at higher risk for COVID-19. Please continue to support your friends, neighbors, and favorite businesses.
We’ll provide updates as we receive them from our partners in emergency management. Again – As of March 5, 2020 – there are no confirmed cases in the State of Pennsylvania.
Thank you!
