Here’s an announcement by Raymond Rodgers, Executive Director of DCARA, with some information for the community. Please watch our video below.
[Video Description: Raymond: a white man wearing a DCARA t-shirt is seated next to a small round table with a coffee cup and a painting by a deaf artist.]
We, at DCARA and CQ, are still alive and continuing to serve the community remotely since the offices are closed. Staff are taking care of themselves, staying safe and healthy. Staff are working from their homes and working hard to ensure the services and information are still accessible to our clients and community.
We want to thank everyone for their cooperation and support during these tough times. We are all in this together and will continue to support everyone impacted by this crisis.
We encourage everyone to continue to follow the Shelter in Place order, which means to stay at home issued by the state government.
– Avoid close contact with people – physically stay 6 feet away – Deaf people chatting through the window as deaf way. Otherwise, VP, FaceTime or Zoom are good tools to stay in contact.
– Avoid crowds or several people, please stay home if you can – use online or mobile apps services for grocery shopping or food deliveries.
– Clean surfaces you often touch – the next vlog will be about metal, plastic, glass and different surfaces and how coronavirus can survive some surfaces longer than you think. After this vlog, my area and chair will get deep cleaning!
– Wash your hands frequently – 20 seconds long. I know it takes a long time but it helps!
Again, stay home please because you’re saving people’s lives.

Wondering what you’re looking at now? Remember coffee chat in the past?
Now, I’m trying to bring back deaf art and artists.
Introducing a deaf artist, Warren Miller, from Indiana. This artwork fits the current environment climate. This painting is called ‘Guardian’. The eye part in the art is called ‘Earth’ but instead of ‘Earth’ it’s called ‘Eyeth’. A bit of humor in deaf jokes. As a ‘Guardian’ of earth…right now COVID-19 made a huge impact, not just here in California, but also at national and global level. This powerful painting speaks to me fitting the situation that’s happening today.
Thank you for watching today.
