Written message and video description below:
The past few weeks have driven us to sit, reflect, and discuss Convo’s role in the system of white supremacy in our country. We acknowledge and sincerely apologize to those who have been harmed by our role, both directly and indirectly, and we take full accountability.
Convo established our Diversity and Inclusion Committee in 2018, as well as provided workshops for employees. We also have a zero-tolerance policy for racism in the workplace; and have terminated employees due to racist behavior, but all of these are not enough.
Currently, we are revisiting our policies, practices, and procedures to see where we can improve. We are having conversations internally with our employees at all levels, and we are reviewing and will continue to review all partnerships that Convo currently has in place.
We recognize that we must be persistent in our approach to changing workplace culture and dismantling systems that oppress BIPOC. We understand that change requires empathy, dedication, and most importantly, actual action. We have been reflecting on this, listening to Black community leaders and activists, and identifying what we need to change and how we can take action.
As a company we will be providing mandatory anti-racist training for all employees—current and new—in partnership with our Diversity and Inclusion Committee. We will continue to educate ourselves and do the critical work that is necessary in order to become an anti-racist company.
Convo is also committed to actively investing in Black Deaf youth and will be discussing our action plan more in the coming weeks and throughout the rest of 2020. Change is hard-fought, and we must first start internally, within ourselves and within the company. This is only the beginning, this work will never stop and we remain committed to always doing the work.
To maintain transparency, we will share updates and progress on our work over time. Please keep us accountable and continue to call us out. We appreciate those who have reached out to us with your concerns. Call us, email us, let us know on social media. We invite you to keep this dialogue going with us. Thank you.
