Shortly after YouTube announced that they were going to get rid of community captions contribution, YouTube has announced that they are trying to “improve” automatic captions. Due to many complaints from YouTubers about being demonetized due to the automatic captions putting not only incorrect words in automatic captions, but racial and homophobic slurs when they are not being said, YouTube has decided to try a new system where are any words that the computer is not sure of it will be covered with brackets. This includes swear words and anything else that might slightly be over a PG rating.

While putting racial and homophobic slurs is a serious problem that I have had myself, and I and others have called out YouTube for it, I do not believe that this is the best way to try to fix that problem. This becomes a major Accessibility issue that will eventually create more issues. YouTube does have a different system that is supposed to fix this in a different way, but it seems that they are shoving that aside to quickly push out in this option.

Deaf people and other disabled people who need closed captions are now going to have an even harder time getting the access that they need in order to understand what is going on in videos, to be able to receive proper information.
