Wayne: Convo is thrilled to announce the first-ever international Deaf-owned acquisition. Convo has acquired SignLive, the only Deaf-owned VRS and VRI provider in the United Kingdom. This is a one-of-a-kind, historic achievement and we are proud to welcome SignLive into the Convo community.

Through this acquisition, we’ve established Convo Global, a new business division at Convo that will focus on international business expansion led by Braam Jordaan, the new CEO of Convo Global. Braam has been instrumental in Convo Canada’s success, and we believe he is the ideal leader to steer Convo Global into the future. He has long been passionate about the Deaf community—the different people, with their languages, cultures, and experiences—and working together to expand Deaf leadership worldwide. With this acquisition, Convo offers interpreting services in five languages across three countries: American Sign Language (ASL), British Sign Language (BSL), Irish Sign Language (ISL), English and Spanish in Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

SignLive and Convo share many mutual values in our vision, our philosophy, and our beliefs. We want to become a leader in accessible communications and interpreting services through an app. The app allows you, as a Deaf person, to be yourself with your culture and language. Our partnership allows us to reach the goal to support the growth of the Deaf Ecosystem throughout the world.

SignLive’s founder, Joel Kellhofer, remains CEO of SignLive and will continue to work with his UK team, alongside Braam. Together, we will expand communication access globally and collaborate in developing a new platform that specializes in interpreting services that allow each country to be its unique self and thrive locally.

Merging with SignLive strengthens Convo’s position in the international video interpreting market, and gives Convo more opportunities to continue learning how to provide the best service to our customers, community, and all communication accessibility stakeholders at a global scale.

We’ve been excited to share this news with you; however, we felt it was important to hold our announcement and give our teams time to get to know each other – our cultures, our shared vision, and how to work together, yet allow SignLive to remain independent and preserve their culture and leadership.

Convo and SignLive have always been committed to investing in the Deaf Ecosystem. Our expansion is just one more step in strengthening the Ecosystem on a global scale and keeping our community at the center of what we do.
