Migdalia: The Humanitarian Award recognizes the work of a deaf, deafblind, and hard of hearing person or organization in our community who are devoted to the welfare of humanity. The Humanitarian Award is awarded to the Minnesota Deaf Muslim Community organization! This organization MDMC is a place that provides resources and tools that no other organization in Minnesota can do for our Deaf, DeafBlind and Hard of Hearing Muslim community.
Several examples of their amazing work:
-they advocate for their community members by educating the hearing community on how to work with the cultural aspects of Deaf Muslims or Deaf BIPOC members.
-they put in hours and hours of volunteer work to make sure that the quality of life for their community members is making sure they have access to information in their language, by providing literacy advocacy, interpreting for family gatherings that speak Islamic language, helping to navigate the system.
-This award represents them what it means to be devoted to the welfare of the Deaf Muslim community members! Congratulations to MDMC.
