[Deb and Amy appear onscreen. Deb begins to sign.]
Deb: We want, the two of us and our families want, to thank you for this big honor for Dad’s nomination. He was a very humble person, always working behind the scenes. At the same time, we always saw him working at home, recording things down, writing letters, balancing the spreadsheets for other organizations.
Amy: Ledger books. Filling out ledger books. He was the treasurer for MADC a while back for a long time. He was also involved with NFSD, the National Fraternal Society of the Deaf.
Deb: This lifetime achievement award is a very good honor for Dad. He was 89. He worked hard. And the last “good news….” He always said to the two of us, “I have good news.”
Deb and Amy both: Good news! Good news!
Deb: So the last good news he told us about was on the Tuesday before he went to the hospital. He said, “Good news. Finally, we got the signs for the highways going into Faribault.” The signs have ‘Minnesota State Academy for the Deaf and the Blind’ on them. There are four altogether. Two on the South of 35W, two on the North of 35. Really, one on each side of Hwy 21 going into…
Amy: And Hwy 60 too.
Amy: Dad worked hard with legislators. He sent letters to Brian Daniels, asking him to please get signs for the highway for MSAD, really, for MSA.
Deb: With COVID, he was irritated how COVID affected setting up the signs and postponed the signs.
Amy: But we are happy to see the signs standing today. It makes us think of Dad and his work.
