Hello. We have new federal recommendations from CDC about COVID-19 booster shots. Now they are not only for Pfizer, but also recommended for Moderna and Johnson & Johnson.
The recommendation for Johnson & Johnson is shorter. If you received your J&J shot 2 months or more ago, and are age 18 or older, you can get the booster.
If your second dose of either Moderna or Pfizer was 6 months or more ago, and are age 18 or older, you can get a booster shot.
The CDC also announced people may choose which COVID-19 vaccine
you receive as a booster shot. For example, some people may prefer to keep the same vaccine type type they already received, and others may prefer to get a different booster. CDC’s recommendations now allow to change which booster shot brand you get.
In California, you have the right to self-determine your risk of COVID-19 exposure. If you want a booster shot, as long as you both: 1) are age 18 or over, 2) had your last shot 2 or 6 months ago, depending on your brand, you cannot be denied a booster shot.
To make your appointment, go to MyTurnCA.gov.
You’ll need to bring your COVID-19 vaccination card. If you did not receive one at your first appointment, contact the site where you got your first shot, or go online to get a digital copy and find out how you can get a card.
