Inspired by a TikTok I saw earlier and just so much of what I’ve watched/read.
“What are you, deaf?”
“Say it back, you deaf ass bitch.”
“Are you deaf or just dumb?”
Just a few variations I’ve seen.
Like… so what if people are deaf? I’ve had people get mad at me for not hearing them in the grocery store or somewhere and only when someone tells them do they feel bad. They didn’t stop to think before that, hey, the person you’re trying to scold right now is deaf.
This stuff does harm to us and I don’t think people realize that. Somehow. Deaf people have been violated emotionally, verbally, and even physically because of this. Remember the deaf Publix employee who got punched by a customer? Yeah, that happened.
Anyway, I don’t really see it happening anytime soon but it would be nice if people stopped using variations of this phrase/question as an insult so much.
